Gwynt y Mor Offshore Wind Farm
Innogy Renewables Ireland (innogy) and Irish company Saorgus Energy are continuing the design phase of Dublin Array Offshore Wind Farm, located on the Kish and Bray Banks, 10km from the coast of Dublin and Wicklow Counties. The project is in the development phase and innogy is leading on the development of the project on behalf of the innogy / Saorgus partnership.
As per the next stage in the development process, innogy has made an application to the Department of Planning, Housing and Local Government for a Foreshore Licence. This Licence will allow innogy to carry out further offshore surveys that will enable them to progress the engineering design and inform the ongoing environmental assessments required as part of the consent process.
This Licence application, if successful, does not confer any permission to build the wind farm but will simply allow innogy to carry out further offshore surveys such as sampling of seabed sediments. innogy will be liaising closely with offshore marine users in the planning of these activities.
A comprehensive stakeholder and community engagement programme is planned for 2020 to ensure that everyone has a chance to talk to innogy about the project and provide input and feedback. The Dublin Array project website will be updated regularly in order that everyone can be kept up to date with the project facts, the timeline, news and development details.
Peter Lefroy, Dublin Array Project Director at innogy said: “The Irish Government has clearly stated that offshore wind resources are crucial to delivering their target of generating 70 per cent of Ireland’s electricity from renewable energy by 2030. Not only can Dublin Array make a significant contribution to this target, but with an investment expected to be in excess of €1 billion, the project offers a significant economic opportunity with potential supply chain benefits, infrastructure and associated jobs and contracts.
“We are committed to working with communities to develop a meaningful approach to supporting local communities, in line with the requirements of the Governments Renewable Energy Support Scheme, when this is finalised.”
The Dublin Array Foreshore Licence application is now live on the Department’s website and can be viewed here: https://www.housing.gov.ie/planning/foreshore/applications/innogy-kish-and-bray-banks
Please note that hard copies of the application will also be available in a number of Garda stations as listed below for people to view.
